The Light

To: book lovers
Among all the books I have read this year, "My life with Pi" and "The Kite runner" are the best.
"Pi" talks about animals and religions, the flesh and holy of human being -- out of the great imagination a human could ever reached.
The kite runner, Khaledis Hosseinia is a great story teller, a great novelist -- is greater than Paulo Coelho (the Alchemist), I think, in the way of still fully sincere. I hope it's not necessary for him to write too many to survive.
And, I'm glad our reading salon didn't select "Bolzc and the little Chinese seamstress", after turned off the last page, I was blank for two seconds: there was no moral, no inspiration, no persuasive story... ,to me, at all. I even don't think it's a good writing -- even though the translation (Chinese from French) is fair enough.
Why it has won so many awards? My guessing is that the time was right for unveiling the foreign, erotic, mysterious China -- but "Joy luck Club" has done the same, and "Joy" probably was a better novel (but a so so movie; I don't have desire in watching little seamstress in film at all).
But probably I'm not suppose to say so, if it's myself, what would I create, construct and write, the foreign Chinese story?
Finally, read the most classic fiction by Bolzc, Le Pere Goriot, it's great, even counted beyond the realism, which carving deeply of the human nature, many parts could be timeless, in writing. The ugly part probably not as shocking any more since the world has contained them and create more.
Why "The kite runner" could be so great? I think it offers a way of antoning our own sins, purify the souls through our touching tears. Although so many plots are dark, but we know there is a way letting us relief from our own strains and glooms.
Good fictions offer us entertaining, Great Literature gives us light.
